Create Dimension for Walls

Generate linear wall dimensions quickly using multiple selection methods and filtering options.

Overview

The Wall Dimensioning command streamlines dimensioning for design, documentation, and construction workflows in Revit. This AI-powered tool provides flexible selection methods and customizable parameters to adapt to different project needs.

Dimensioning Methods

Choose from three approaches to define which walls receive dimensions:

  • By Two Points — Pick two points on the plan; dimensions are created for all walls intersected by the line.
  • From Selection — Manually select multiple walls and apply dimensions to the entire group.
  • From Selection Regions — Dimension walls within selected regions separately, ideal for grouped layouts.

Configuration Options

Wall Thickness Limitation

Set a threshold to ignore thin partitions or non-structural walls, keeping dimensions focused on major structural elements.

Dimension Type

Supports linear dimension types only for consistent output. Users select their preferred linear style according to project standards.

Dimension Reference

Choose whether dimensions are created from the wall’s centerline or faces, providing flexibility for design intent and construction accuracy.

Include Total Length

Enable this option to add a dimension string showing the total span from first to last wall reference.

Use Cases

  • Residential Floor Plans: Generate room-to-room wall dimensions efficiently
  • Renovation & Survey Work: Dimension walls along corridors based on site measurements
  • Detailed Construction Drawings: Create precise face-of-wall dimensions for material estimation
  • Filter Out Non-Structural Walls: Apply thickness limits to maintain clean documentation
