Dimension Settings

Automate the creation and arrangement of dimensions between model elements and reference points (e.g., gridlines, levels):

  1. Click the Dimension Settings tab at the top of the Settings window.

  2. Define dimension rules:

    • First Element: Select the element category to dimension (e.g., Duct, Pipe, Wall).

    • First Reference: Choose the primary reference (e.g., Centerline, Grid Line, Level).

    • Second Element: Optionally select a second model element or reference.

    • Second Reference: Define the anchor point (e.g., Face, Centerline).

    • Click Add to include the rule in your dimension strategy.

Note: To use centerline-based dimensions, the family must include reference lines marked as “Center (Left/Right)” and “Center (Front/Back).” This ensures proper alignment through the element’s center.

  1. On the right panel, select the dimension style from a dropdown of your Revit project’s available styles.

Types Tab: Allows filtering of family types or instances, either from the list or directly from the active view.

Filter Section: Sets dimension direction, spacing range, and enables chain dimensioning for continuous references.

  1. Optionally, toggle Chain Dimension ON at the bottom of the preview to connect multiple elements along the same axis (e.g., beams, ducts, walls).

  1. Click OK to save the template.

Smart Annotation will now apply dimensions intelligently, freeing you from manual placement.
